[ after the great crab cookout, Ulrika takes to the streets with an extra plate of food. she's a little pensive, today, even as she stuffs another crab croquette in her mouth. ]

... Oh hey, what're you doing here? I figured everyone would still be at the cookout.

I thought I'd take the opportunity to make one last loop of the city before we settled in for the night. Likely in vain, as they've proven they can hide anything from us they wish, but it helps to feel like we have a little bit more control over our situation.

What about you? You decided to leave early as well?

[magichammer]

Yeah - the crab's tasty and everything, but it's kind of weird to stick around when I know someone brainwashed Sholmes into romance.

[ what if someone targets her just by being there ]

[wait hold on you can't just SAY something like that??????]

I'd noticed he was acting somewhat out of the ordinary earlier this week--well, more out of the ordinary than he normally is. But I didn't know that somebody else had caused it.

How did you learn this?

[magichammer]

Oh, he flipped out at me. It was really weird.

[ yeah ]

He got all intense and accusatory! And I guess I managed to persuade him, because he backed off.

I can only imagine. I've never seen him act as anything more than a clown.

Why did he accuse you, of all people?

[magichammer]

Because I was there, I guess?

[ she rolls her eyes as Albin makes tiny ferret growls from her shoulder. ]

He was half drunk on whatever it was he found, so I don't know, maybe he hallucinated I was the person that cursed him and then tried to cover it up?

[It's a conversation with only half the context...]

What he found? You're saying he found alcohol and chose to get drunk while all this has been going on?

[WHAT THE FUCK SHOLMES.......... why!!!! Can't!! You be normal!!!!]

I find myself wondering more and more if he's capable of half the things he claims he is.

I mean, he can be an idiot and capable of other stuff. That's multitasking!

[ yeah! like Ulrika ]

I got the sense he was really upset, so I imagine he woke up from his romance curse and decided the best cure was to drink. Which is stupid, but, you know, adults.

[veraltwin]

[Hi Ulrika! What have you been getting up to this week? Alisaie hasn't seen much of her so far, but that's about to change--she's in the gardens when she spots another of those blasted shards lying innocuously on the ground, ready for anyone to unthinkingly step on and trigger.]

Oh, for the love of--

[She grabs it without thinking. Without looking at who might be nearby. And the memory swallows them both.]

[Alisaie shakes her head.] I suspect that he is more capable than he acts, but I've yet to see it myself.

Adults indeed. [She... she's an adult.....] I cannot say I understand the urge myself. Who wants to lose control of themselves in such a manner?

[veraltwin]

[She's really gotta get better about looking around for people before triggering these. Alisaie starts, then sees Ulrika and sighs.]

You needn't be. It was but a fact of life in the First.

Forgive me for the sudden intrusion. Had I noticed you were there I would have waited to pick this one up.

... Maybe Sholmes is into that.

[ he's already weird, what's one more thing to be weird about ]

It's fine, it's not like you knew I was there.

[ Ulrika will meander over to Alisaie's side, peering at the guilty shards on the ground. wow, there are a fair number of them... ]

You know, I keep hearing that this week? I get that there wasn't anything that could be done, but that doesn't mean the situation sucked any less.

...no, it doesn't. [Which is kind of a weird thought, tbh! She hasn't thought about that too much.]

But it's easier to accept one's reality and work to improve it than to waste time thinking about how bad it is.

Yeah, you're right! No reason to get down in the dumps when there's still stuff to do, right?
